Mission
The UW-Speech and Hearing Clinic Hearing Aid Recycling Program (HARP) is supported by a generous donation from the former Sertoma organization of Madison. The mission of the Hearing Aid Recycling Program (HARP) is to provide reconditioned hearing aids to low-income persons. Behind-the-ear type hearing aids, ear molds, and batteries will be provided at low to no cost to persons meeting the program’s criteria and sufficient funding is available.
Eligibility & Process
The Hearing Aid Recycling Program is designed to assist those who have no practical resource available to them. Other options for assistance include private insurance, state Medicaid programs, BadgerCare, Vocational Rehabilitation, Veterans Administration, church groups, family or friend assistance, or other state or local programs. Therefore, HARP should be the program of last resort.
Preference will be given to persons living in Dane county and surrounding communities in order to provide complete support services. Once the potential recipient has been passed the financial screening, s/he will be seen at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Speech & Hearing Clinic for audiological exams, paid for by the fund created by the former Sertoma club of Madison.
If an applicant has family support or funds in money market accounts, mutual funds, 401(k) plans, IRAs, certificates of deposit (CDs), checking/saving accounts, stocks, bonds or T-bills, this may not be the program for you. HARP considers all these when determining eligibility.
Audiologic Criteria: Moderate to profound bilateral hearing loss will be given highest priority due to the significant impact on communication, in accordance with Audiologist's recommendation to achieve reasonable benefit to the hearing aid recipient.
