Speech and Language Services

We Provide Evaluation and Treatment Services for Children and Adults who…

Evaluation Services:

Speech and Language Assessment

  • Address general speech and language concerns
  • Specialized clinics described under Treatment Services, address specific concerns
  •  The evaluation process focuses on each person’s or family’s unique concerns to determine the most appropriate course of treatment.

Communication Assessment for Persons with Hearing Loss

  • Assessment in clinic, home, school , or work setting available to promote  optimal  listening conditions ,functional auditory skill development, speech, speechreading, sign and/or spoken language development
  • Pre-candidacy baseline evaluation and information counseling available for those considering cochlear implant surgery

Head Start Screening

  • Speech, language,  pure tone hearing screening, and tympanometry
  • Screenings are offered to all children ages 3 to 5 enrolled in Dane county Head Start Pre-School programs
Treatment Services:

Augmentative and Alternative Communication

  • Clinic-based and on-site communication assessment, design and construction of non-electronic communication aids
  •  Assistance in identifying and acquiring electronic communication aids
  •  Training for optimal use of augmentative communication aids
  •  Consultation to facilitate maximal participation in daily activities.

Aural (Re)habilitation

  • Programs for persons who are Deaf or hard of hearing
  • Development of communication skills in auditory-oral or manual English systems
  • Hearing aid or cochlear implant orientation
  • Auditory training, speech reading, and family counseling
  •  Group programs for young children and their family members are also available.

Communication Interaction for Persons with Developmental Disabilities

  • Services emphasize functional communication and social skill development in both clinic and community settings
  •  Daily living and/or recreational skill development are often   incorporated into the treatment programs.

Disfluency and Stuttering

  • Programs for the preschool children and their families focus on environmental strategies for facilitating fluency and successful communication
  •  The focus for young school-age children is on improving fluency and shaping positive attitudes toward communication
  •  Programs for older children and adults also address stuttering modification.

Language and Learning

  • Programs for young children teach parents strategies for encouraging the development of language skills
  •  Programs for older children and adults address specific oral and written language disabilities
  • Pre-school language stimulation group sessions for children 3-5 who do not qualify for public school placement yet whose language skills are delayed or of concern to parents.  Classes scheduled by age and/or attention span

Neurogenic Communication

  • Services address speech, language, and/or cognitive needs resulting from neurological disorders such as stroke, brain injury, and degenerative disease processes
  •  Education and  information counseling for family members/significant others  is an integral part of the treatment process
  • Consultations
  • Clinic, community and home-based services available

 
Phonology and Articulation

  • Services focus on increasing speech intelligibility and correcting errors in speech-sound production.

Voice

Student clinician works with a client using the audio system hooked up to the computer.

  • Comprehensive services for a wide range of voice and resonance  problems include direct treatment and collaboration with other voice-care professionals.
