The Tom J. Hixon Memorial Fund (#12547176)Dr. Hixon began his academic career at the University of Wisconsin, and was a faculty member in our department between 1965 and 1976; he created a tone of scholarly excellence among our faculty members that continues in our department to this day. Dr. Hixon went on to the University of Arizona, where he was a Professor of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, Director of the National Center for Neurogenic Communication Disorders, and Dean Emeritus of the Graduate College. Dr. Hixon was a fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and was also awarded Honors of the Association, the Council of Editor’s Award, and two Journal Editor’s Awards from the Association for the outstanding article of the year. Dr. Hixon served as an Editorial Reviewer and/or Associate Editor to over a dozen speech and voice journals and twice served as an Editor for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, once as Editor of the Journal of Speech and Hearing Research and once as the Speech Section Editor of the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research. Funds contributed in his name will support improvements to a space devoted to faculty interactions; that space will bear his name. The Ray Kent Doctoral Scholarship Fund (#12544869)The Fund will be used to award a scholarship, once a year, to a doctoral student who is in at least the second year of the program and who is working on a research project that emulates the interest areas and high level of scholarship exemplified by Professor Kent throughout his career at UW-Madison.
The Mary E Smith Go Big Red Scholarship Fund (#12547309)The Go Big Red Scholarship was established in 2011 by her colleagues to honor the career of Mary E Smith, a clinical faculty member in Communication Sciences and Disorders for her 44 years to honor her commitment to teaching, scholarship and service efforts. Her father, ‘Red’, instilled in her the value of education. This scholarship will be given to a graduate student in speech language pathology annually with an expressed specialty preference for diagnostics and assessment and thereby extend Mary’s legacy.
The Loon Fellowship Fund (#1254998)Established in 2003, the Loon Fellowship is awarded yearly to a student who, "...fosters social skills, communication, and relationship building within the graduate program." The Loon Foundation, organized by twelve former graduate students who began their clinical training in 1979 and have maintained a bond of professional accomplishment and friendship for more than 30 years invites you to contribute to this worthy fund.
