Mentor-based research doctorate
Welcome to the Prospective Ph.D. Students section of the UW-Madison Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders Web site. We are delighted that you are considering graduate work in our department.
Our Ph.D. program is ranked second by U.S. News and World Report. It’s also one of only a very few communication sciences and disorders programs to appear in the recent National Research Council (NRC) rankings, and the only one ranked in the top 10 percent when compared to psychology programs nationwide.
We offer two programs that lead to a doctoral degree: this Ph.D. program and the M.S./Ph.D. program.
Both programs emphasize extensive academic training in communication sciences and disorders, plus intensive training in the student’s area of concentration. We expect all students to become creative scientists and to exhibit a strong commitment to research and scholarship.
