Help Us Grow

Chair’s Message

Professor Bob Lutfi
Welcome to the website for the Department of Communicative Disorders at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We appreciate your interest in our department! We are proud of our academic, clinical, and research programs and the various accomplishments of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni. As we seek to maintain excellence in all aspects of our program, we are facing increasing challenges with respect to resources. Although UW-Madison is a public institution, the percentage of public funds that sustain the university budget has been steadily decreasing and it appears that this trend is likely to continue into the foreseeable future. Therefore, we are seeking assistance from our alumni and friends.

Your gifts make an enormous difference to our program and are deeply appreciated. For instance, $25 pays for instructional technology consumables, $100 buys needed clinic materials for working with clients, and $800 enables a graduate student to present a talk or poster at a professional meeting. Other needs include student scholarships, continuing education funds for academic and clinical faculty, and dedicated research funds for recruiting the best and brightest faculty who will continue the tradition of excellence in training our next generation of audiologists and speech-language pathologists.

We have recently learned that our department will be relocated as part of a strategic building and renovation plan for the west end of campus. Goodnight Hall will be reclaimed as a student dormitory. We invite you to consider a contribution to our ‘relocation’ fund to ensure that our program has the space and facilities needed to continue to be at the leading edge of the field in student training, clinical services, and research. Your gifts help us sustain our current programs and grow in new and exciting directions!
