Welcome To UW-Madison ComDis
Helping people communicate better through education, treatment, research, and outreach
The UW-Madison Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders works to understand, prevent, identify, and treat speech, language, voice, and hearing disorders that affect communication. Here are the ways we do that:
- Outstanding education. Our nationally and internationally recognized faculty educate young adults to become clinicians, scientists, and teachers of the future. Our top-ranked programs in speech-language pathology and audiology offer a variety of didactic and hands-on educational opportunities, so graduates are fully prepared for the rigors of the profession.
- Comprehensive, affordable clinical care. Our faculty and staff run the UW Speech and Hearing Clinic, which offers evaluation and treatment of communication disorders. The clinic serves Wisconsin residents across the lifespan, and offers low-cost services and partial scholarships for individuals and families in need.
- Real-world research. Our faculty perform cutting-edge research that has clear health relevance. Faculty have been issued patents, created spin-off companies, and developed technology that benefits people in Wisconsin and the nation.
- Impressive outreach. Our faculty frequently provide outreach services and consulting, often at no cost, to families, school systems, and other organizations in need.
