Gaussian Noise

Noise by definition is just unwanted sound. However, there is one special type of noise that has broad application in the hearing sciences. This is gaussian noise. We will discuss some reasons for its popularity in class. Gaussian noise is noise that has a random and normal distribution of instantaneous amplitudes over time. The picture below shows a sample of gaussian noise with the normal (bell) curve drawn to the right to represent the distribution of instantaneous amplitudes.
