Gaussian Noise
Noise by definition is just unwanted sound. However, there is one special
type of noise that has broad application in the hearing sciences. This is
gaussian noise. We will discuss some reasons for its popularity in class.
Gaussian noise is noise that has a random and normal distribution of
instantaneous amplitudes over time. The picture below shows a sample of
gaussian noise with the normal (bell) curve drawn to the right to represent the
distribution of instantaneous amplitudes.
